HOPPER

Nathan ‘Hopper’ Martinez

Nathan ‘Hopper’ Martinez

He hopped before he walked.

He swung a hammer before he played on a swing set.

So, it would make sense that from an early age, Nate—or Hop—was hopping around Colorado job sites with his father, a master carpenter, and asking the questions that would one day lead to his chosen profession. At age 16, he was running crews. By 21, he was managing multimillion-dollar construction projects. His skills and experience saw him working on commercial and residential projects around the country.

In 2005, while working as an insurance adjuster, he was sent to New Orleans. There was much to be done in the city, and in his spare time, he volunteered with the nonprofit Common Ground, helping people rebuild their homes and lives. The experience would prove life-changing. He took a vow of poverty, gave away all his assets, and began helping people start anew through HOPE (Helping Other People in Every Way, a nonprofit started by Isabelle Troadec). While with HOPE, he rebuilt New Orleans-area homes, taught building principles and techniques to volunteers, and later ran the organization.

After more than two years in New Orleans, he returned to Colorado and started the next iteration of Hoppers Handyman & Construction, which he later took to Cheyenne, Wyoming, before setting up shop in Montana in 2010, where he’s “hopping to meet your every building need.”

Hop lives with his wife Danielle, their daughter, and their three pups in the Bitterroot Valley.
